Coming to J. C. Harmon High School on March 1

KCKPS Will Host a Youth Leadership Retreat, Community Resource Fair and Panel Discussion on Mental Health 

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools is inviting KCKPS students and the greater Kansas City community to a special event focused on youth development, social well-being, and crime prevention. 

Leaders from the Enough is Enough initiative will host a Youth Leadership Retreat focused on a day of learning for KCKPS students. The retreat aims to provide students passionate about ending violence in their community with leadership skills, service opportunities, and connections within the community. 

The retreat will also serve as a work session for students as they practice their grant-writing skills and propose a violence prevention project. 

In addition, there will be a resource fair that will feature more than two dozen local organizations that offer resources to help promote positive health and wellness. 

Organizations will include The Urban League of Greater KC, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Revolucion Educativa, Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Unified Government Health Department, the University of Kansas Health System, and more.  

The final portion of the evening will feature a panel of community leaders who will focus on community resources and mental health. Attendees can submit questions ahead of the discussion by emailing them to enough@kckps.org

Guests include Behavioral Health Coordinator Angela Dunn, Trauma Injury Prevention Specialist Olivia Desmarais, Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Tyrone Garner and, a student from KCKPS. 

KCKPS Superintendent Dr. Anna Stubblefield will serve as moderator of the panel discussion. “We hope this event will initiate deeper conversations on how we can possibly resolve some of the issues we face every day in our community,” said Stubblefield.

All three events will take place at J.C. Harmon High School on Wednesday, March 1. 

J.C. Harmon is located at 2400 Steele Road in Kansas City, Kansas. 

The youth leadership retreat will begin 1:30pm. The resource fair will begin at 5:30 p.m. The panel discussion will begin at 6:30 pm.  

Dinner and beverages will be provided for those who attend.
